MACA Mourns Loss of Member

On Wednesday, March 11, 2009, John Marmaduke “Kim” Kimbrough, III departed to enter the congregation of those redeemed in Jesus Christ, which surrounds the everlasting throne, to offer eternal praise to his King, who had graciously sustained and provided for him and his family.

Mr. Kimbrough was born January 9, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of Lexington, MS; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

He was a member and Ruling Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Lexington, where he served as Clerk of the Session. He served on the Presbyterian Church in America/Mississippi Valley Presbytery Credentials Committee from 1995-1998, the PCA/MS Valley Presbytery Rules Committee from 2000-2003, the PCA/MS Valley Presbytery Shepherding & Advisory Committee from 2001-2007, and the PCA General Assembly Reformed University Ministries Committee.

Kimbrough was an Eagle Scout and Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow, past Scoutmaster of Troop 64 in Lexington, and a 1969 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he was a member of the Block & Bridle Club and Alpha Zeta Honorary Agriculture Fraternity.

Kimbrough was an active row-crop producer, cattleman, and conservationist. He was a 1990 recipient of the National Endowment for Soil & Water Conservation Award; Organizing President of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants (NAICC); Past President of the Mississippi Agricultural Consultant’s Association; 1999 recipient of the Service to Agriculture award from the NAICC; recipient of the 1994 Cyanamid Consultant of the Year; past director of the Holmes County Livestock Association and the MS Cattlemen’s Association; past president of Holmes County Farm Bureau; and current Chairman of the Holmes County Soil & Water Conservation Board.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Magee Kimbrough; daughters, Marianna Rebecca Kimbrough Chapman (Andy) of Clinton and Olivia Louise Kimbrough Logan (Roane) of Cleveland; sons, Robert Thomas Kimbrough (Natalie) of Grenada and John M. Kimbrough IV (Jennifer) of Jackson; sister, Betsy Kimbrough Padgett and husband, Paul of Lexington; brother, Robert Earle Kimbrough and wife, Susie of Meadville; his six grandchildren, Case Kimbrough, Nathan and Thomas Logan, Miller and Rachel Hayes, Kate Chapman; cousins, Martha Van Zant, Nancy Van Zant (Tom) Whetstone and son, James Daniel, and Kim and Terry Farley.

A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Lexington, MS. Reverends John McKenzie and Paul Long, Jr. led the service.

Active pallbearers were Allin Kimbrough, John Robert Kimbrough, Curtis Mooneyhan, Logan Harper, John Ginn, and Phillip McKibben.

Honorary pallbearers were the Elders and Deacons of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Max Yates, Joseph Keyes, Watt Ervin, Owen Taylor, Neil Marshall, Jack Purvis, Bill Howell, and Frank Gwin, Jr.
