"Code_rush" documentary companion site Web site
client: Winton/Dupont Films
role: sound designer / interactive designer / programmer
challenge: Create a companion site which promotes and expands on the broadcast of a documentary about Netscape.
features:
- Flash intro movie with audio collage
- Flash interface
- audio clips from documentary interviews
Winton/Dupont films spent two years filming Netscape in action as they prepared to release the "open source" code for Mozilla, their popular browser. In the end, the footage told the story of a company swallowed up by a monster.
I worked with Jeff Fassnacht to create a content rich companion site to expand on the story told in the documentary as it was prepared for broadcast on PBS. We decided to use Flash to deliver animation and sound throughout the site to capture the fast paced story line of the movie.
As a filmmaker, Dave Winton felt limited in only being able to present one story line to take viewers through the two years of events captured. The Web site provided a means to go into more detail about different aspects of the story which may have been lost in editing. The site present an interactive timeline, audio interview clips, activities to explores what "code" is all about, as well as details about the broadcast of the film.
